SUMMARY:Emotional Safety in Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:Youth suicide behavior is a significant national problem and bullying is rampant. Victims of bullies report high levels of loneliness\, distress\, and negativity and are more likely to attempt suicide than non-victims. Unfortunately\, children in foster care often have higher rates of suicide ideation and impaired social issues in school. To address these issues\, the Emotional Safety in Foster Care Workshop\, offered by Social Perspective\, and sponsored by Headquarters Counseling Center\, will be held August 28\, 2015 in Lawrence . Attendees earn 4 CEUs (approved by the Kansas BSRB). Lunch will be provided. This workshop will focus on unique challenges for foster care parents and youth in foster care\, teaching social skills\, how bullying affects the lives of children\, how to recognize victimization behaviors\, and how to respond effectively and appropriately to bullying and suicide ideation. All individuals involved or interested in the foster care field may participate\; however\, registration is required. Save the date\, visit our website and register (www.socialperspective.org)\, and learn more about supporting youth in foster care!
